How deep 2 drive in pilot bearing?

My manual doesnt tell me how far to push the new pilot bearing into the crank. Apparently the way I had it was not driven in far enough because my a833 tranny shaft was making contact with it. It looks like it could go in another inch or two. Does anybody know how fat it should go in? Thanks
