Wow,that is one brave and giving individual. We could take lessons..

my mos in army is part route clearance, and in training they tought us how to "probe" for mines which a probe is like a plastic stick..

I give him credit he has balls. That procedure is definitely not authorized for me to do. We have to disarm everything remotely.

That's pretty amazing. He's very "matter of fact" about it, too. That's one brave, and compassionate human being!

Once you unscrew the booster from the bottom the mine is pretty much harmless. Add to that the pressure pad takes 15kg if I remember correctly to actually punch into the detonator.

It's very humbling to see a young person perform a dangerous service without even being paid. Reminds me of a kid I read about in Costa Rica who spends his days filling potholes in the highway, like it's just something he does...

wow...that was great...i for sure as hell wouldnt do something like that...lol , knowing my luck, id for sure get blown up. LOL...

Not to be a total smartass but I have several years of training to disarm every type of explosive device you can think up to include nukes. Hand entry is the last resort to any operation. But I have been trained to do that as well. It only takes one mine to have an internal variation to bite you. That's not something you walk away from while it's sitting in your lap. That is a USSR anti-personnel PMN-2 landmine I know exactly how it works. I have x-rays of them and I know exactly how many grams of explosives are inside of it. I have an entire publication just for it. Hell I have a publication for just about every type of ordnance on the planet. Just because it has been done a million times doesn't mean a million and one isn't the one to get ya. He has balls and is a real humanitarian but that still doesn't make it safe.

I never said what he was doing is safe. But I think if you've dismantled 10,000 PMN-2's by hand (not to mention he used to plant them) he might know a few things as well, he's not some amateur. And yes all it takes is one that doesn't go exactly as he plans and he dies. But I think that since he planted so many as a kid and killed who knows how many people, he's willing to take that chance as his way of atonement.
