I'm not a racer and neither is my car.

I invested some for performance upgrades. It has about 285-300hp with 318 ci, TTI headers, mild cam, aluminum intake, aluminim radiator w electric fans, Edelbrock AVS2 carb, 4 spd 727 automatic with OD, 2k stall converter, new gas tank with pump, 3.73 geared dana 60 rear end.

She runs way better now, but still would.like to see better takeoff. She revs high at the light and when i punch it, the tires squeel a bit until it gets into higher gears, then loses its speed by 3rd speed it seems. Should I be manually shifting from 1? Or leave it in drive and power brake?

What does it run at the track (ET and MPH)? How do you know for sure that it isn't performing how it should?

I dont race it, nor testeted at track. Not saying its not performing as should, maybe had higher expectations.

Not GV. Dont have the paperwork in front but, they either rebuilt the 727 or added a newer A518.
Ok that makes sence.
If you want to make it run harder with the combo you have, as a higher stall converter(you will loose street mileage) but will be more fun!
If you need more hook, get bigger tires.

285-300hp is close to what some new mini vans have.

Plus the hp rating of the new mini van would be SAE net instead of the old gross rating.

That only nudges the excitement meter so far.

Hi Steve I have a 1968 Dart 340 with a 727 trans didn't know they made a 727 with overdrive, if it is a A518 trans I didn't think they would clear the floor tunnel or the cross member. how did you accomplish this.

Tuning your carb and timing is going to be where its at if there is anything to be gained.
You wouldn’t want to ditch very good parts, but a 727 is heavy & takes more hp to turn and is way more than needed for pretty much any small block, especially a mild 318. Same for the Dana 60.
Weight is the enemy for acceleration, its not a race car, so you aren’t going to start stripping out seats etc., but dont be carrying around any unnecessary stuff either.

There’s always the easy way out.......
Go to the dealer and sign on the bottom line.
Burn rubber while enjoying all the creature comforts and a warranty.
