interested I new cam for the demon... anybody have experience or thoughts on howards rattler series?

No experience here, but since you asked about thoughts.....

The're a little late to this particular party...imo. Many Howards grinds are great and I wouldn't hesitate to use one at all if it fit my criteria & budget.

With that said, and looking over the 3 available grinds, I'd probably be interested in looking closer at the,
#718001, and possibly the,
#718041...

When you get to the #718081, there's just too many proven cams available for me to get serious about that one.

I'm just talking about my first glance at the available specs. We'd really need to know what combination of engine, trans, rear gear, intended use, etc. you're using to make any kind of serious recommendation...

71 demon, 318,727, 3000 stall, 355s,worked 302 heads, street dominator, 670 avenger, looking for lopey cam with enough torque to fry the tires

That's a pretty nice combo you have, although I'm not sure where your compression falls? Like if different pistons, and/or head milling was involved? One other question that needs answered is, when the 302's were "worked", did they cut the guides for dual valve springs?

It reminds me of some "old school" builds, as do the "Rattler" cam specs. Pretty biased toward the upper/mid range (3000/5000) rpm's. Those cams seem very similar to some 60's/70's grinds that a lot of speed shops would recommend back in those days. Modest lift, moderate duration, and fairly big overlap (sound). I ran more then a handful of cams like that years back on street cars, and they were a little soft down low, and ran out of steam a little earlier then expected. I guess what I'm saying is, the #718001 may be something you can work with. It would certainly sound good, but I think there are others that can give you plenty of sound and still provide enhanced low end while extending your power range upstairs.

Not to sound like a "Comp" homer :), but depending on the springs you can use, one of the XE grinds, or even the lg. Dual Energy, should give a broad range of power in your breathing range. I wouldn't rule out a mild Lunati Voodoo either, but there site seems to be down right now?

just waiting to get heads out of shop, springs were to match mp 284/284 cam in motor, stock 87 motor, will be using thin head gaskets, only the exhaust valves were upped 160s, intakes were left stock, I trust this shop as they do a lot ofmopar work, so I will see how it runs in the spring, car is buried in snow right now
