I have a 360 in my duster and would like to know how to identify what year 360 the block is and what heads are on it. where do I find the casting #s and Where can I match them

Casting numbers are located by the starter and will also have the displacement and mold suffix, as well, for example:

3418496-360-12
c/n disp. suf.

NOTE: Sometimes the suffix and displacement positions are switched.

Additional information is also provided below the driver's side head, on a machined surface and includes such things as year, displacement, performance level ('Sp' for T/A 340), or fuel ('P' or 'R'), engine assembly plant, date assembled, shift and assembly line info.
For example:

GW360R30550001

G= 1971 assembly year
W= Windsor assembly plant
360= displacement
R= regular fuel
3055= December, 8th on the 10,000 day calendar
0001=the specific shift and engine build that day.

Following the full assembly number there can also be critical machining info, such as a diamond, 'X', Maltese Cross, or the letters 'HP'.

Diamond= O/S valve guides
Maltese Cross= Under sizing on 1 or more crank journals of less than .010. undersize.
X= Used in conjunction with the Maltese Cross ONLY, denotes .010 U/S journals on all main, rod, or both journals.
HP=Optional performance level, usually found on 360s and big blocks.
A=.020 oversize bore
B=.040 oversize bore

Casting date positions have varied, but are most usually found on the passenger's side on a small block, very near the passenger's motor mount ears.

Mark.
