Hey all..
I've been lurking these forums for a while now, fell in love with old Dusters and Demons and was constantly looking around to get one. I don't have a whole lot of mechanical experience, just simple stuff like replacing starters, motor/transmission mounts, redoing brakes etc and promised myself only when I had some space to get another old car to learn more.. Only it didn't quite go like that..
Got hit by a drunk drive a couple of months back while at a red light and messed up my shoulders and neck. I've had surgeries on both shoulders in the past for sports injuries and they're pretty sure I'm gonna need to get them fixed again. This story is not for a pity party, I'm fine, nobody got killed which is awesome and the drunk driver got arrested, but it sets up my story well.. Whilst under the influence of some prescribed medication, I may have accidentally *cough* bought a '72 *cough* Duster, whoops!
She's been abused by the previous owner and I've already had to try and tackle some issues. Think the NSS is done and the power steering is busted. Whoops again. Oh well, I'm actually super excited because her and I are already in love, she just needs to hit the gym a bit and purdy herself up a bit if she wants to stick around.
The worst part is I can't even drive the thing because my shoulders are that messed up that with no power steering I can barely drive around the block. Another "whoops".
By now you've realized I don't work for NASA :sign3:
Anyway, you all seem like a nice community and I'm hoping to be a worthwhile addition.
Lastly, if anyone knows a good mechanic in the Glendale/Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles, let me know. I'd love it if there is a member of these boards that I could pay to fix the NSS and the Power Steering, and also let me be their observer. I won't be able to do any heavy lifting but would happily keep them refreshed with beverages and the like and be their go'fer.
