Can someone tell me how big I can go on rear tire size. Running 17" rims on stock suspension, 71 dodge dart swinger

Pretty much the same as on any diameter rim with the springs in the stock locations. 255’s are possible on some cars, but 245 is a safer bet if the body tolerances are on the tight side.

Yep, my 245's are fine and 255's are doable. 265's maybe?
245 is 9.646 inches, 255 is 10.039 and 265 is 10.433. Would be an expensive experiment, but I almost think I could fit another inch in there.......

With the stock springs and uncut/rolled quarters most of those cars are about 11” from spring to quarter lip, give or take body tolerances. Some are definitely tighter than that. My GT is 11” on one side and 11 1/8” on the other, and there’s more than a few guys here with less than that.

255 is about the limit on most cars unless you roll the quarter lips, you need a 1/2” clearance to the quarters. Springs can be a little tighter. Keep in mind too that not all the tire manufacturers use the exact same dimensions, some have wider section widths than that. They vary quite a bit by brand and model, they’re not all exactly the advertised size.
