Yesterday I was watching a live auction simulcast on Ebay- I was going to bid on a few items. Some signs have sold for over $40,000...

Pennsylvania Vacuum Cup Tires Diecut Flange Sign Lot 168 | eBay

Even all the plain, common ones have broken the thousand-dollar mark:

The current Confederate flag focus may have helped this one fetch $11,500:

Crazy stuff. I've see these items sell for one-half of these prices in conventional online auctions. Bring a thousand items together for a daylong event and it attracts high rollers. Prices do not reflect a hefty premium levied by the auctioneer, either! Surprisingly a beautiful Valiant sign (http://www.ebay.com/itm/331646885730?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT) went for only $650, and when they turn up (not often), they usually go for $600- $1200 in that condition.

metal gas station signs and globes are big money makers for antique sellers. Collectors of Americana. car related antiques, and even gear heads like us are often separated from large chucks of cash to own them.

There is a flea market store near my house full of the globes, to bad they all look pristine and like reproductions with the antique prices.

If your talking about the auction at morphys, if I am correct, that was ONE persons collection.........The auction house was charging I think 22% buyers premium as well.....Crazy stuff man, just crazy.

That's the auction. A marathon event ,that must have left everyone spent in more ways than one. A few million dollars must have traded hands, plus that 22% premium
