It's a little warmer this morning, so while I'm shuffling around waiting for the shop heaters to work their magic, I start looking at all the miscellaneous "treasures" I've been tripping over and can't seem to part with... and I wonder what I'm going to do with it all. And the wheels start turning (uh-oh, trouble ahead...). That 273 in the corner, that AX-15 under the bench. That '88 Dakota next to the shop with a "blowed up" 2.2 turbo motor in it (some people experiment with LSD, I experiment with weird engine combos- not much difference, really). That stack of cams and manifolds on the shelf that I'll never use. On and on... And I start to wonder, "Hey, it's all stuff I already have, what if??" Not that I need another project (I'm already pointedly ignoring the wife's ever-growing "Honey-Do" list...), but it's all there and wouldn't take much to do it (famous last words!). The Dak is light, and in this age of "stroker this, and stroker that" I still think there's something sweet about a small displacement, high-revving engine at full song... and no great loss if I blow it all up.
Anybody else have this sickness? Let's hear your thoughts: What throw-away parts combos and fantasies do you currently have?

I didn't know they were called daydreams... it's how I lived the hobby for over 30 years!:eek::eek:

Mine: Start with the 273, add a set of 302 heads that I'm not sure what else I'll do with, an MP purple shaft street hemi cam that's been sitting on the shelf for way too many years, a Holley 500 cfm 2 bbl. (that I don't know why I have) on a 318 2 bbl TBI manifold that I'm using for a doorstop with an adapter plate from the parts drawer (plan B is a Carter 625 on a 318 Streetmaster, but that almost makes it too legit :) ), one pair of magnum manifolds that're sitting under the bench. Bolt the AX-15 on behind it, with a lightly used clutch. Dump it in the Dakota that I mentioned (standard cab short bed) and see how long it lasts.
$0 investment with stuff that may otherwise never get used. Now I just need to find the time.
