Hi Guys, want to put the moroso S/S Oil Pan no. 20730 at my 408, does anybody use this one in an a-body and can tell me if it fits with headers, K-member etc.? Or does it need modifications? Ground Clearance?

Are there better choices in your opinion?

Thanks for your answers!

Car is a 1968 Valiant with manual steering, column shift.

regards

Michael

I have a 402 (360 Magnum 4 inch stroker crate motor) in a 70 Duster, and I know it's a moroso pan, because it mentioned in the paperwork that came with the engine.

Looks like it is the 20710 for a 360 magnum, and I measured and it's 10 inches. The pan is deeper, but not wider. The web site shows a schematic and picture view.

I had to grind about 1/8 inch off the K-member in two spots where the front two corners of the pan are when I installed the engine. No big deal.

As for headers, no problem with the pan, just with the ribs of the block on the pass. side. Don't think they hit on my 340. T.T.I . may have changed their header design by now, but I don't know.

Hope this helps!

The Moroso pan should fit most, if not all headers. I had one years ago but didn't care for it much. It was painted and didn't hold up well, plus it had the drain plug on the bottom instead of the side. I knocked the drain plug out once when I had to drop a tire off of the edge of a return road. Luckily it was after we finished the race.

I've been using an 8 qt. Milodon 30940. It is slightly shallower, but wider at the bottom for more ground clearance without reduced capacity. Drain plug is in the back-side and the gold finish holds up better. You have to notch the k-member lip on the passenger side to clear the corner of the sump during engine installation. TTI headers fit with plenty of clearance. Not sure which other ones do, but TTI provides the most ground clearance since the pipes go over the steering linkages.

Milodon also has a 7 qt. 30941 with even more ground clearance. I've never tried it but I believe most if not all other headers will clear. Not sure about notching the k-member either. Wouldn't hurt to call & ask.

These pan #'s are for the original style 360 with the larger front pan seal and smaller rear. The 318/340 pans have the same larger seal front & back. forgot what the Magnums have.
