New Mufflers

I have had better luck killing drone by placing them in front of the muffler rather than after.

I had drone on my 72 Challenger so bought (Vibrant Performance 1142 Exhaust Resonators with the round case) resonators. The muffler shop could not put them in front of the muffler because they would hit the floor. Had to put them after the bend around the axle just before the chrome tip. Guess there are oval resonators that might fit before the muffler?

Whatever happened to the Walker Turbos. Been using these for 50 years on my van with the 340 and 2.5 pipe coming out in front of the rear tires. Appliance headers. Yes, I'm that old.

Here you go Swinger 340. A large case Walker Dynamax Super Turbo

I just put a pair of 3-in AP Max turbos on my 340 I have 3 in through the muffler to two and a half inch tail pipes out the back. I love the sound virtually no drone and very inexpensive I'm a satisfied customer. I started with cherry bombs salutes they were so loud people would literally cover their ears when they walk behind my car even with exhaust all the way out the back. And before that I had flowmaster 40s also too loud. I don't know how long they'll last but for right now they sound awesome. I think they're US. made and and I know there's 3 in all the way through the muffler.

Finally had time to put the big mufflers on. The engine is a roughly 575 HP 440. Car is a 66-67 Coronet, 3.91 gear. They sound very smooth inside while driving at 60-65 and sound good with no ear splitting resonation at 2200 rpm cruising aorund. They have a nice powerful tone outside and have no resonation and start to really growl under load, as a straight through muffler does. To me, they are very impressive and I am sure all the ceramic fiber packing combined with the really good perforation pattern helped .

Here are some interesting sound measurements for folks liking data to compare. By the way, If anyone wonders how loud the small Spin Techs can be, these set records for me. Never recorded anything this loud other than open headers.

Spin Techs at 10 feet from exhaust outlet.
Idle. 90 dBa
2200. 100 dBA
3500 rpm 112 dBa

The new mufflers
idle. 82 dBA
2200 rpm. 91 dBA
3500 rpm 99 dBA
