Has anybody verified what type of aftermarket spray paint matches reasonably well other than buying the specialty paint from Mopar shops (would probably cost over $100 to get it up here)? My air filter housing has been blasted so I can't check it against other colors. So far this is my take away from perusing other forum posts:

  • Its not street hemi orange like Duplicolor DE1652
  • It FRAM orange which is similar to a Chevy engine orange
  • Rust oleum 2x real orange is a good match
  • its more orangy than hemi orange
  • pic robbed from this forum

ok Rust oleum 2x real orange is not a good match...too bright. I had some of the Duplicolor DE1652 and it is closer. I might try the Chevy stuff next.

I’m not sure how you could judge it well,,,,,the one in that pic is so dirty that it makes it impossible to compare the colors .

I have used colors before on other items that after painting I would shoot a coat of clear over it , and it would alter the finish color .
Or you might try a different color underneath and see if it alters the final color.
Just a thought,,,,it’s probably going to be a trial and error sort of exercise ?

I bought some Tremclad Kubota Orange and it seems really close. I was looking for the Allis Chalmers orange but nobody has it. I'll post a pic after I get it painted.

The air cleaners definitely looked like a different shade of orange,,from Hemi orange .
You’re right,,,,Fram orange was about the right shade or color .
It was really like an orange paint,,but with an ever so slight hint of red pigment added .
Chevy orange is close,,,but even it is too orange.
I was at a show just now and saw a 69 Chevelle with a beautiful orange paint job .
It was a brand new restoration,,but I don’t know if it was the factory paint code for that car .
The car was originally orange,,,but who knows what recipe the painter used .
