# outlet holes on some water pumps?

Curious why some water pumps have 3 outlet holes on the top? But most have 2.
I know the 2 holes are 1 for by-pass to thermostat housing and the other is for heater core.

3 on top was for use on an industrial engine with water cooled passage in the middle of the intake. No exhaust cross over.
