Hi All,

I'm trying to find out if the "Richard Petty Blue" color was available as an optional "Special Order Paint" on 1972 Plymouth Dusters. I have found references to Chrysler Paint Code "C37D (Special Order Paint)" which I belive was for 1970 Chrysler vehicles, but I can't find it for 72'.

Does anyone happend to know where I can find detailed color code information for 1972 Chrylser/Plymouth vehicles? Was it just the "999" option with the color name?

Here is some of the information I've found on the color so far:
http://www.allpar.com/racing/petty-plymouth-racing.html
http://www.plymouthbulletin.com/guides/1960_to_current.pdf
http://www.mopardealer.com/petty.htm
http://www.mymopar.com/tools.htm

Thanks,

petty blue was available on 72 dusters. I have seen a few of them. Don't know the paint code, though, sorry.

I don't know the paint code but the right name for it is "Corporate Blue"

If you look at the link I posted, that is "THE" actual ordering information for 1972 Plymouth vehicles. TB3 color for Plymouth that year is called "Basin Street Blue".

IIRC, Corporate Blue was what they were going to or wanted to call it initially. They may have called it corporate in later years, I don't know, but 1972 Plymouth was Basin Street.

I never heard of Basin street blue i always heard of it reffered to as Petty or Corporate blue.
What was it called on the 72 Dodge's?

People referred to it as "Petty Blue" but that was not the name of it 1972. It looked like petty blue or a shade different. In 1970 Chrysler painted 1 Superbird, and 1 GTX in special 999 paint code which was actually Richard Petty Blue. It is a very cool color!!

Starting with 1968 thru 1972 there were two "corporate identity" colors for Plymouth;

Corporate White #8367
Corporate Blue #12785

TB3 for Plymouths was called Basin Street Blue but the term Petty Blue was used alot also.

TB3 for Dodges was called Super Blue from what I've seen.

I looked into buying a '73 RoadRunner 340 4spd several years ago that was Petty Blue and it had 999 on the Fender Tag.

i think if the "official" name was Petty then Chrysler would have had to pay King Richard a royalty!
but wasn`t B5 blue the same color we are talking about???
...i thought i knew something...now i`m so confused...lol

ok, i just looked at "Vicious" link for paint color/codes and i see that B5 is different than Super Blue, but what do i care? i love Richard Petty, but my fave color is Plum Crazy Purple! ...and i`m painting my Dart Swinger yellow! (probly Top Banana!)

Thanks again eveyone. I know car colors are like ice cream; we all have our favorite flavors, and having more than one flavor makes the world more fun. Rock on.
