Does anyone know if there are performance jetting/metering rod options for the Carter 3854S AVS carburetor used on a 1965 235hp Dart (automatic or 4-speed?) My engine builder (Brian at IMM engines) is going to tune the stock carb I’ll be using on my car after break-in on his dyno. He asked me to look around and see what’s available. I’ve got a message in to Mike’s carburetor, but I’d like to know if any 235hp 273 FABO members have any recommendations or sources. Thanks.

Carter kits are drying up. See if you can narrow down what you need, and ill try to assist you.

I’m not sure what I’m looking at here. My engine builder just wanted a source for metering rods and jets in case he needed them for tuning the carb on the dyno. I’m pretty sure the jets won’t be a problem. If there is a kit (which is what it appears to be in your photo) that I could buy, I would be willing to buy it if it’s within reason. I think he would just like to have some alternative parts to use/try dialing it in. If you are willing to sell pieces only, I will let him know I have a source if he knows exactly what he needs. Thanks!

Looks like I need a Carter 10-202 strip kit from what I’ve been able to find online. Found a couple of sources but they are sold out. Sone 101’s and 104’s on ebay, but not what I need. Thanks.

I doubt the 3854 is an AVS carb, more likely an AFB. If it is an AVS, it will have raised piston covers. If it is an AFB, then the Edel AFB jets will fit. You might be able to buy them as a pair, get one size larger for the primary & secondary positions.

No, it is not an AVS. The 'S' is a Carter code. I can tell from the bit of air horn showing in the pic that it is an AFB. They measured just under 4" for the air cleaner neck; all AVS carbs measured 5", same as Holleys.
