I picked my Z-bar bushing up from mother Mopar today. I have it installed, and it works, but doesn't look right to me. The bushing on the frame rail side is 1/2 out of the Z-bar (which is probably why 1 was missing), and I don't think it was designed this way. I can't find anything in my manual about the correct way to install the Z-bar, so am hoping you guys can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

On a related note, I also have a question about the clutch pedal. I had the bar from the pedal to the z-bar disconnected. When I push down on the clutch pedal, the spring will hold the pedal all the way up, or all the way down. Is this right? Seems kind of weird to me. I have it all back together, and even with the pressure from the clutch the pedal doesn't like to pop back up on it's own. It was binding with the pushrod before, but that went away with the new bushing.

Your Z-bar should have two clips on either side that keep the Z-bar centered between the frame rail and the engine/tranny mount. If you look, their will be two holes on either side of the z-bar on each end. That is where the prongs of the clip slip into.

Your spring which is called an overcenter spring is working exactly like it is was designed to.

I can send you a pic tonight if someone else doesn't beat me to it.

Like Rod indicated it sounds like the spring clip that locates the bushing on the frame side is holding the bushing from going in all the way. Pull the spring clip off, slide the z-bar over towards the frame, reinstall the spring clip and slide the z-bar back and forth until the clip drops into the groove in the bushing. If this turns out to not be the answer then you may have the wrong bushing. The bushing in pick-up z-bars is much longer (over an inch) and you may have a truck bushing.

The engine side is supposed to float to allow for engine movement.

Thanks guys,
I removed the spring clip, slid the z-bar over, and put the spring clip back in. Now I know what the grooves in the center of the bushings were for. When I took it apart, it wasn't put together correctly so I didn't know how it was supposed to look.

Now I just need to get the clutch pedal to pop back up correctly.

I beleave that when your clutch set up is complete you`ll find that the pedal will pop up. It was the same for me, the over center spring just "helps"
you with putting the pedal down. Please correct me if I`m wrong.
