I have a 67 Dodge dart, that I am going to convert to a four speed. I would love to put a pistol grip shifter in it. I would also like to use the original a body console. Has anybody, or does anybody know if it can be done, and if so, what I need to do/get. Thanks for any info

Will need to be custom built. No factory parts made to do this.
Shouldn't be difficult though with a welder.
The factory console boot takes a round stick rather than rectangled.

I know that it would be a custom build. Just figure that I am not the first person to want to try this. I am wondering which shifter is the one to start with. I would figure that I could use a factory E-body boot. Anyone try this in their A-body?

I remember hearing somewhere that the pistol grip will bang on the seat, and needs to be lengthened to work correctly. I'm not 100% on this, but keep it in mind.

I have heard of that in a bench seat car. I have bucket seats.

I have a pistol grip in my 67 Barracuda, no console though. Short shifter from a 71 E body I was told.If you want a pic, I think I have one on my computer.

I had a pistol grip from a 71 b body in my 70 duster and it worked fine .
It was a bench seat .

A- body boot for round stick mounts to console plate and is recessed under mounting ring.
E- body boot for rectangle stick mounts to floor and is all above mounting ring.
Not sure what you are starting with for a console top plate, auto or 4-speed.
It would be easiest to do it as the E-body with boot not attached to console.
I sold my E-body so no picture for you how the boot looked with a console on it.

Pulled these E-body pic's off a google search. They just screwed a console down over
the shifter and boot. Boot not attached to console like the A-body.

Not the best photo but if you can see at the top of the picture where the
stick would come thru the boot of a A-body console. Offset handle to center
stick to console. E-body boot wouldn't likely go over this offset. Probably why
boot is attached to console on the A-body rather than floor like the E.

Mine had a round hole for the round shifter. I poked the pistol grip through and presto! The round hole became rectangular:cheers: now if your like me and you don't take to cursing easily? By the time you take out the automatic and and put everything (and i mean everything ! ) to make that 4 speed work like it came original in that car, i can almost guarantee you'll have let go a few choices words! BUT, like anyone will tell you in the end itt was ssooooo worth it !!!!!! :burnout:

I put a 71-74 B body pistol grip in my Dart. Had to fab up my own mount for it since it wasn't meant to go on an A-230 but I made it work. If you're going with a console then you might be better off with the E body pistol grip. Don't know why the pic is sideways but I'm on mobile so yeah...
