Seeing as I'm still learning I don't know the finer points of engine building, can the top and second rings in a 383 be flipped around? Filing the rings and went over on one of my top rings to .019 instead of .017, could I just take them all out to .021 then file down what I was going to use for the second rings to .017 instead?

Sealed power says both top and bottom rings are the same material, they are the same except the finish on the outside of the ring, one set is dull and the other set is a bit lighter in color. Otherwise they're exactly the same.

I don't have the cash to spare on another set of rings...

Run it and don't think twice about it. You're worryin about .002". Let it go man. LOL But no, usually you cannot swap places because the bevels face opposite directions. Usually.

Yeah they are marked so that one bevel faces up and the other bevel faces down, nothing indicates which one is supposed to be the top or second ring...

Oh yes there is. The top ring always has the dot or bevel facing up whichever it has. I wouldn't worry about it. Run the .019 on top. lol

Ah poo, noticed the ring had a burr on it and wasn't 100% even, knocked the burr off it's actually closer to like .021

no bueno, where can I buy a single ring lol

Nowhere. You'll need to get a set for one single piston. Summit.

Yep, looks they can order single rings through the manufacturer, at least for federal mogul/speed pro stuff. Went ahead and got a replacement moly top ring and a better ring filer lol

I wouldn't worry about .002.
On my 440 nos engine the top ring is gap'd at .031.

Everyone's tired of the same old engine.
