Are the mid 1960's plastic interior parts like the 66 barracuda plastic cluster bezel parts ABS? I need to fix a broken interior anchor point for one of the screws that holds it together and if it's ABS the acetone methods will give a stronger hold than just supergluing, so I though I would ask.

If you have a spare bezel that you could experiment with, trim you some shavings off an edge and mix the acetone to see if it makes a paste. If it does, you should be good to go. Fixing plastic parts like that is WAY better than Super Glue.

ALL I have heard and read is DO NOT paint it if you want it professionally repaired. Now, that might be some OLD advice, cause ....well......I'm old, but that's what I've always understood.

I have an OK original that i have been using, and two other cores, so I will be testing it out, and keeping the ok original one in case I want it professionally done. Of course, that costs so much I doubt I will go that route, short of winning the lottery. :)

That's great! Clean the spot you want to repair REALLY well, mix you up some goo and have at it. Post a pic or two when you get it fixed.

My plastic welder works nice for stuff like that
Sometimes ill take a old piece from a doner to use as filler

I had to replace the heater core in my 2004 Dakota, and when I was taking to top panel of the dash off, it exploded while I was popping it up from the clips! I used a plastic welder with the little squiggly wires to repair that piece. It is the width of the dash and broke into 4 pieces. The plastic welder worked great for that. Nobody would ever notice unless I pointed it out. The part the OP is fixing is the little mounting point for his dash bezel. The way he is planning to fix it will work even better than the plastic welder, in his situation.

I have to try this acetone trick. I get lots of cracked parts.

So does it help to prevent the plastic from braking?
Wounder if it will soften the plastic a little to prevent it from breaking again

There’s also this option, but you have to be a kid from the 70’s and know how to use it. The haircut also helps!
