Folks, I have heard some very good reports and testimonials regarding the coatings put out by POR-15. Of course the correct application instructions need to be rigidly observed.

The coatings have a good reputation like I said.

I will be playing cut and weld with quite a few areas of Dottie Rae. I have purchased all the replacement parts available aftermarket. Having done so all of the parts aren't available so pieces will be stitched together as possible but all of the missing steel can't be duplicated so imperfections will exist.

As some of you know, I am no Chip Foose so I will have mistakes and gaps to fill in.

Anyway, long story short - Do these products have a place in QUALITY repairs?

Its tough stuff.
I patched a hole in my caravan with it,por 15 and window screen.
It held for a long time, when it did let go, it was still solid, but rusted away from patch.
I also used it to paint some wheels, it held really well.
But any high quality chassis paint will fit the bill IMHO.

I used POR putty for 6 or 7 pin holes in the spare tire well after getting down to bare metal. Taped the bottom side. Then the POR silver paint on top of that. Then primed. I also hit the bottom side with POR 15 black after the topside. After grinding and sanding the whole area was pretty thin. Now it's hard as rock. Be sure to follow directions, lots of prep work. Good luck with your car.

The best way is always metal, but sometimes there are alternatives.

I had a spare tire well in a 53 Chrysler that needed repair. It wasn't completely trashed, mostly just one hole and kind of thin.

Rather than trying to replace it, I decided to patch/reinforce it with fiberglass mat and POR-15. I painted a coat of POR-15 on the metal, laid a strip of mat on top of it. More POR-15 and another layer of mat.

It came out great and was pretty easy to do.
