The starter crapped out on my 66 Valiant on Easter :angry7:, it is still sitting in the garage where she died. Finally deciding to pull the starter out and I will take it to a good electric place here in town for a rebuild. My question is that this is a Powermaster mini adjustable aftermarket starter (only 3 or 4 years old), can the shop get parts for this? Just asking cause it is aftermarket stuff. I think the starter gear stayed engaged, it made an awful sound and still makes it if you try to start it. Hopefully with the headers and 4-speed stuff it comes out easily, been putting it off for awhile but now I miss driving the beast. thanks!

Well, that wasn't so bad, it came right out! The damn thing was loose in there, almost ready to fall out. It looks like the adjusting screws that hold the starter to the adapter block plate came loose and this allowed the move and the starter gear to slip off the flywheel ring gear. The one small bolt came out, the other stayed in a little but bent and cracked the housing a little. I will take some pics, hopefully I can replace the screws and bolt it back together. The gear has a couple of small nicks on the teeth but it don't look too ugly. The ring gear looks good on the flywheel too. I will get some pics up shortly, tell me what ya think, thanks!

Slap it back and maybe it will turn Ok Keith?

It is a Powermaster XS Torque for Mopar 340. Looks like the long allen screws that hold the starter body to the adjustable plate pulled through the aluminum, stripping those holes out. I pulled it apart and set the adjustment on the next holes, hoping this will work. The screws don't thread in far enough, maybe I should run and get some longer screws. Hopefully the starter will work in the other position, only a hair off. I think this is my problem, starter worked fine till it came loose. I hate spending lots of money, only to have it break or wear out a few yeras later!!

Longer bolts in a different adjustment setting worked!!! :happy6: :happy6: :happy6: :happy6: :happy6: :happy6: :happy6:

There are 2 big black marks going up my driveway!!! :thumblef:

Hopefully it works now, why didn't I fix this sooner??? Only cost me $1.60 for the bolts.

GOOD DEAL now back to mopars aand babes OK!

Yes, I have been slacking on the Mopar Babe thread but I will post some fresh ones just for you later tonite!! :happy6:
