So the engine in question is in my truck. Rebuilt '74 shortblock, "302"heads cut 0.030", stock rockers, hydraulic lifters, stock pushrods, MP springs, CompCams XE262 cam.

Once assembled and hot, the pushrods seem to be a fuzz to tight in the rocker. I can BARELY rotate them in place.

Could I just get a pushrod that's 0.025" shorter and be ok?

With stock rockers (non adjustable) your only option is to measure for the correct length pushrods to get the preload where it needs to be. Since your heads have been cut, and maybe the deck, they will be shorter. A better option is to use adjustable rocker gear AND get the right length pushrods.

I get what the "best" option is, but buying $159 worth of pushrods and $200+ worth of rockers is more than I want to do right now.

I'm looking for the quick fix.

Surely somebody has to have experience with this?

I do have lots of experience with “this”. Don’t half *** the valvetrain. Do it once, and do it right. You don’t need $200 pushrods. Get one measuring pushrod. Measure, then order stock style pushrods in the correct length.

There use to be shims available to put under the rocker shafts that came in sets of 10. There were different thicknesses. Mancini is one place that comes to mind, but there may be others. Maybe Summit or Jegs also.

Go to this site. Talk to Don. He makes the pushrods for 80% of the aftermarket company's. Tell him what you want. If your nice? He throws in a couple of spares for those unknown things that happen. I have bought from him before. And actually got a tour of his shop. Nice Mopar guy.
