Has anyone found a reasonably priced replacement radiator for a 1962 Lancer with the 225 six. I would hate to pay 7 or 8 hundred dollars for one.
I'm trying to find a place to have mine boiled out, but they are few and far between these days. Alternatively, has anyone had success with installing electric fans and removing the engine fan.
I appreciate any info anyone could share.
Bill

I’ve been quoted $1000 to recore a 66 radiator, reason being the cost of and lack of cores from Canada

do you care if it looks stock? ie: are you okay with an aftermarket aluminum radiator?

because if so, that opens up your options tremendously.

The day of the cheap-and-good radiator (or cheap-and-good radiator repair) for a car like yours are in the past. You don't have to hack some generic thing into your car or pay a thousand bucks, though. See here as documented here.

If you decide to go the "Champion" route, be aware that two companies sell radiators under that name. Champion Cooling Systems is reportedly good; Champion is reportedly poopy. Neither company will sell you a radiator that looks anything like the original.

Thanks, Dan. I for one was not aware of the duplicate Champion name.

Hey! You still had some hair in that picture!

Have you tried soaking it in vinegar?
I flushed my 65 Barracuda 72 318 cooling system years ago, don't remember how long I left the vinegar in there. You drain & then flush while running, and then fill it up with vinegar & let it soak for hours. If you can see in cap hole & tell when crud has softened you then start engine, warm it up then drain while running with garden hose in cap hole, hot water helps. Run till clear.
It won't remove all crud. I had to remove lower hose & back flush & then reflush.
I then removed the steel freeze plugs to install brass & some were very corroded. And bottom of block was full of black crap, so had to reflush. I didn't do one behind motor mount then, till I bought new rubber.
Car has dealer installed A/C w/ larger rad, I think, and idled in the sun on a 92° day in Indy, for an hour & never overheated.
Yes, you might cause other problems, but its an old style repair. And if you find a shop that will 'Rod Out' your rad they'll love the way the lime and other deposits are softened, if you get there soon enough.
