Sometimes I pretend to be normal
Im swapping axles so while the rear end is opened up I thought I would check and see if there was anything that should be checked with the cone style sure grip? Should it be rebuilt, cleaned up?
or call dr diff
I'm in the middle of doing this as well. Dr Diff recommended milling .040" off the bottom of the cones and using a .030" shim between the gear and the cone. He sells a kit that includes the 2 shims and 2 new cupped washers that go on the outside of the spider gear.
What did he charge you for that kit?
To be honest, I can't recall, because I ordered it with a bunch of other stuff. It's just two shims and two cupped washers/shim things. I can try to find the receipt tonight if you'd like. Your best bet is to give him a call- 406-883-4772.
You may even be able to find shims at mcmaster.com.
No problem, just wondered if you knew right off hand. Don't worry about looking I'll give Cass a call. I have some shims, just no cupped washers for the spider gears. Thanks
I know this is not the most desirable of the sure grip, but for now its going to have to stay in the car. I've spent way to much money on my car already. Especially with the bottom end of my engine taking a dump! From what I can tell the unit works great. If anything how can you tell that its on its way out or may need a refashioning?
I just looked and it was $15. Came with 2 cupped washers and 2 .030" shims.
straightline,if you want help i can see what i can do if you can haul it to Hopkins.I work at a shop on the other side of town if that helps.
