Finally started putting a Cleggs stroker kit on my 340 la motor. Was able to install four of the pistons and when I went to spin the crank to check it I found the rod cap bolts were hitting the cylinder wall preventing it from turning freely. Do I have to disassemble the motor again and notch the cylinder in eight places or is there another solution. Thought about grinding the bolt head but not sure what the right way is to do it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated

do not grind the bolt head... grind where it hits... Hughes recommends .030 clearance as enough. you "can" do it without disassembly by covering every inch you can so shavings can't get into the motor and then pray you got it all... or take it apart and check each rod 1 at a time for clearance and don't worry and it will be done right.

Thank you for your expertise. Are there any water jackets i should be concerned about or just take the dremal with grinding stone to do the job

I assume it BARELY hits? you would have to go pretty deep to hit water... if it's going to be like .050 don't sweat it.. and i would use a burr if you have it.. a stone will throw bits of stone all over the place and you will never find it all without a full clean up

BTW.. what stroke did you go with? most 4" kits don't need clearancing

Eagle stroker kit but it's barely hitting but hitting no the less
