I had this guy come over today just as i was about to take a much needed nap and he wanted to look at my cars so out we went to the "Field of Dreams" and he spied the E body barracuda. Pretty much all there but needs a lot of work. This thing is rough. If i were to keep it i would cut off the roof and do a vert clone but he's interested and after i told him the price($3500) he offered a trade that sounds very interesting. He's got a pieced together rollback chevy in the 78 model that he dolled up with some 86 model sheet metal and he wants to trade. I don't know much about it and am going to ride the bike up and look at it after it cools off. I don't have much in my E body so i won't loose and i could use a rollback. That rollback might get me in trouble. Any ideas?

Diesel or Gas? What size is the chassis? Is it a 1 ton or is it a real truck (C500 or larger)? If it's a 1 ton avoid it like the Mette Sif. They were pickup based and too weak to do the job. On the other hand the large trucks, C500-C600, were built with pretty much standardized parts i.e., Eaton axles, Budd wheels, New Process tranny. The only thing really Chebbie was the sheetmetal and the gasoline engines, the diesel was a Detroit. The 366 big block was a fairly reliable engine, for a Blowtie. Learned this working with bucket trucks and line trucks from the '70s era when I worked for Ma Bell as a lineman. Best truck we had was a D600 bucket truck with the mother of all bed winches and a 318 for power. Next best was a GMC 6000 center mount digger truck with a 366 big block.

I saw it and it aint a roll back. I took the bike and had a nice ride up and back but it was a dove tail rig with ramps. My buddy has one and i'm not impressed with it. This thing as you stated was a 1 ton extended frame with a 350 in it. Had one hell of a winch but i guess i like and will pay for a little better stuff. Sounds as though we have a similiar idea on what we will settle for. Thanks Grumps.

sounds like it would be a real pig when you load it up. Id pass.
