Does the roof rail weatherstrip get adhesive? I don't remember there being any when I took it apart years ago. And there wasn't any old adhesive residue. But it seemed to go in the Chrome strip pretty easy. I didn't have any luck using the search function.

In my 70 Swinger, the weatherstrip just slides into the chrome piece, although on the back of the chrome piece, there is a material thats glued on to seal it to the roofrail.

Where did you get your seals? The ones I bought from DMT (Steele) fit in pretty easy but didnt seal well until I shimmed up the backside thickness of the rubber. The seal was loose in the roof rail groove. Kind of hard to explain but you could grab the edge of it and move it up and down within the groove. This extra play didnt keep the seal pushed tight against the areas where it makes contact with the door and glass. It was touching but wasn't tight which created some wind noise and allowed a little but of water to get around the seal during car washes.

I bought a few different rolls of 3/4" wide weatherstrip with adhesive backing. The thicknesses I bought were 1/8" & 1/16". I used a combination of those two thicknesses to get the seal fitting more tightly in the roof rail groove. I used 1/16" along the front edge of the vent window, 1/8" along the top of the window and then back to 1/16" above where the quarter window starts continuing all the way back. Stick the weatherstripping to the back side of the rubber seal then slip the seal back into the roof rail groove.

Behind the stainless piece between the trim and the body, the factory used a foam strip. It was made of material similar to the seal that goes around the fuel filler tube where it meets the quarter panel. DMT sells that seal too.

So I got the premium seals from DMT. Also the foam strip between the body and trim. They fit great, just wasn't 100% on the adhesive or not since I tore the car apart 5 years ago. I can't remember yesterday much less 5 years ago..lol

I can definitely see what your talking about shimming them up. They seem to fit and seal well, but maybe once wind and and water hit it, that may be a different story.

Thanks!
