Hello, Getting ready to paint the roof of my car. Rain gutter seems to always be an issue with rust buried under paint and primer from previous owners. I grinded out the rust and paint and primer down to the bare metal because I do not want to start having issues with the new paint. What should I seal that interior with so water will just fly down there and not get to the seam where the roof sits. Did the manufacturer use a seam sealer there and how did they get it smooth to accept the primer and paint.

Yes, you need a seam sealer in the roof rail gutter. Folks use different products including those from the hardware store not intended for that job. The choice is yours but from experience I'd recommend using a two part product such as Lord Fusor 123EZ or 129. It does require a special gun to dispense but it self levels, can be tooled with a finger, and cures in minutes.

Mask off where you don't want sealer, apply it, smooth it, pull the tape right away and you're done.

Great question-I need to know too. I removed a vinyl top and was wondering also
