Rust removal with caustic soda

I have just come into possession of a couple of gallons of caustic soda.

Has anyone used this stuff for rust removal and if so, what concentration did you use and at what concentration.

I do know use a well ventilated area and to dilute, add the sol'n to water vs water to the solution.

Google shows caustic soda is used for rust removal using the electrolysis process.

Phosphoric acid is used on its own. Thats all I know

Thanks...I was going that route but I had wondered if anyone had used it on it's own.

BTW, the solution works best on it's own when the water / CS is very hot.
