1968 Dart GT, I’ve been getting water into my floorboard and cleaned the cowl vents first. It sure needed it and thought I was successful.. then I thought it must be the wiper pivots.. didn’t see any wetness anywhere near that area. we had some pretty heavy rain last night and while the puddle of water in the floor has greatly reduced.. I’m still getting some in somewhere. Stuck my head under the dash with a flashlight to do investigating. The insulation that goes between the vent box and firewall on the driver side was soaked at the bottom. Removed that didn’t see anything obvious.

Grabbed the water hose and ran water down the cowl drain on the drivers side. I ran it for a good 30 seconds solid. Water came out of the cowl drain as it should, looked under the dash and there it was.. a tiny stream coming from where the cowl/firewall/body meet. Also saw water bleeding out between the cowl and inner fender under the hood.. obviously this could be remedied blowing the body and sheet metal apart as you would going full resto but, I’m not in a position to do that currently. I was thinking of applying some sealer at the leak point under the dash but I dunno what to do about the bleed out under the hood..

Here’s some photos of what I’m talking about..

Is there anything I can do to remedy this? I still haven’t installed my carpet since the 4spd swap because I discovered the swimming pool in the floor. I’m guessing this cars history included being parked indoors most of its life since the floors are in super shape.. or I just have that kind of luck

A water proof car cover may be in my future in either case..

Your windshield channel drain is clogged. You'll need to take the bottom chrome off and open them up, Also open up the drains behind the fender. If you need pictures I can take some of a body that is here on a rotisserie. I had a video on the site but it was removed.

I sure would appreciate it… a friend mentioned the fender drain and I took a coat hanger and was able to remove a good bit of gunk from that. The rocker drains were clear thankfully.

Sometimes its the windshield gasket itself that leaks, cause’s? No sealer was used when the windshield was replaced and/or the vehicle was in an accident and the window pinch joint is tweaked.

how did you clean the cowl drains? did you take the front fenders off? Take the splash shields out? I can't see how you would accomplish that task without taking them off.

The windshield gasket will leak if the windshield channel drains are clogged . Using windshield sealer at these 2 drain holes causes the channel to over flow.

Also the cowl water dams do rust out. They can be repaired with rust neutralizer and then flex seal or POR15 putty from the top if you remove the vent box and heater core from the inside and go through the top of the hole to do the repair.

You must reach in on top through the hole and vacuum out the area and the rust proof it . I attached a small U-bent tube to a shop vac hose Then seal it reaching through the hole again. Here is where they rust.

If your cowl was filled with debris more then likely your windshield drains are clogged also.

But this is common for cars to rust in this cowl area. They never had any paint under the cowl. Debris just helps hold the moisture, Easy fix without removing the cowl from the inside if you take your time and use the correct materials it won't return in your lifetime. I did several . This car I removed the cowl due to it being damage from the vents being destroyed mounting of a fuel pressure gauge which allowed for these pictures .

Well crap! It was when I clicked on the link in the sticky and copied it to past here. :BangHead: Why would they take something down that could be so helpful to so many people?! :realcrazy:
