I checked out some threads here and watched a set of YT videos before tackling this project. There was a variety of tips some of which were unnecessary and made for more work. I had 6 sliders, a few in rough shape to start with so its nice to be able to rob parts such as studs. I thought I would rebuild one before tackling the whole lot. While this isn't a how to thread I thought I would provide a few tips:
  • take pictures before you start :)
  • I disassembled the first one and then blasted it but blasted the other 3 before disassembly....not sure which way is best. I don't think the interior needs to be blasted. I still don't fully understand the differences between the pass and driver side components so I didn't want to mix them up. ps I just taped the slider knobs as the screws were stuck.
  • to disassemble just straighten out the bent corners of the upper track (per the video) with vise grips. You can then push the roller bearing sliders out each end with a screw driver and then slide the upper track off now the bent tabs are straightened. Watch for loose ball and roller bearings. There is nothing capturing the rollers. The balls should be captured unless the sliders have been mangled (had a few like that).
  • Reassembly - after cleaning, priming and painting, grease and install one slider in the lower track with the roller. Slide the upper track over the slider
  • Slide the track to the other end and install the other slider and slide the track back over it. There are indentations in the upper track that limit the travel and prevent you from installing both sliders and then sliding the upper track over top of the whole lot

No difference between driver and pass. side. Differences are controls for right side and left side buckets, and tracks are inside and outside.

Very helpful as I work on cleaning up my tracks. Is there anyone who sells the roller and the plastic sliding insert? One of my tracks is missing those pieces on one end.

I haven't seen any but I didn't look hard as I robbed missing pieces out of a butchered donor track. I think the bench seat tracks have the same parts but not 100% sure.

Thanks, I'll try scavenging some. As much wear and tear as these pieces get, it's surprising no one offers them.
