A buddy of mine who is deep into death metal was kind enough to rip some really cool stuff. These "artists" make Megadeath, Metallica and Pantera sound like easy listening. This stuff is not for the "under 18" crowd".

That being said, even my rotti mix ran out the room. Some of this is stateside and some is from Norway and Sweden.

So here's some band names, if you can add, fire it up:

Lamb of God
Evergrey
Leviathan

Keep in mind that I listen to everything from Led Zep to Allman Bros and James Taylor to Rush and Van Halen. I even like Mozart when I'm trying to think vs escape, lol! Leviathan is mind melting.

I can see how that would put a positive spin on practically any situation:angry7:

As much as I love heavy music, once I hear the screaming cookie-monster vocals I get turned off..... Lamb of God, Machine Head, Shadows Fall, Trivium, etc... Can't get into it. Not to mention the music (?) sounds like a run-away frieght train with no dynamics or technique. Just loud, fast, thrashing. Bang...Bang...Bang....

Now don't get me wrong, I love Heavy Metal, but some of this stuff sounds like a parody of what an outsider would describe as Heavy Metal. To me it sounds like something a 13 yr. old would listen to to be "cool"....

But that's just an opinion from a Bassist playing for over 35 yrs......

Lamb of God is awesome!

Sepultura is pretty hard

Slayer will blow your mind too. When VH1 did the top 100 metal bands, they said if Hell had a soundtrack, it would be played by Slayer:snakeman:

I listen to about everything too. Except rap and country:vom:

I'm with you on THAT! Pedal steel guitar makes the hair stand on the back of my neck.... and forget about these Rap "artist". It's like the Thug-of-the-month club.....:thebirdm:

All music should be taken in context and not as a roadmap to a lifestyle. As long as someone is mature enough to realize that, they can listen to what they want with no negative effects.

John, check out Evergrey. No gravely vocals and they are quite talented. Straight from Norway I think. Here's a free download: www.evergrey.net/mp3/Evergrey-Fail.mp3

I too agree on the cookie monster puking his guts out vocals. Just can't deal with it. I do love listening to metal but not just that kind.

if you hated Trivium try their "The Crusade" album ..its more like metallica ...no screaming voacals ...

also if anyone is feeling itchy for 80s style thrash ... "Black Tide" is one of my favorite new bands ..cuts out the tough guy cookie monster crap and its mind bending early thrash NWOBHM style stuff ..think metallica, and and iron maiden had some kids and started a band.

Black Tide shockwave..

Wow. I'm suddenly reminded that a former coworker has had my VHS copy of S.O.D. Live At Budokan for several years. Lawnmower Deth is a greatly amusing British band.

I dig bands that sound like they're on fire and/or throwing-up, but stuff like Deicide is so berserk that I just can't get into it.

as far as the death metal stuff ..check out ...
In Flames ... albums.. Jester race, Whoracle ,Colony, Clayman
Soilwork ....albums...Chainheart Machine, Natural Born Chaos, figure number five
At The Gates ...album ...slaughter of the soul.

The at the gates album was the precursor for the two bands stated above ..the sound is concidered Sweedish melodic death metal..At the gates invented it ....nothing has yet to top it in the genere

Imagine Iron Maiden riffs with vocals sounding like you are being tourtured ...if you think you will like it ..please check it out ..the guitar work alone is AMAZING

and for those that cant deal with the vocals ..check out In FLames track called Wayfaerer ..no vocals ...just amazing music
