I have a 8 3/4 rear i want to use in my '72 Scamp, but i have to shorten it to use it in an A-body, not much by measurements. anyone done this? how hard is this? i know i need to get new axles and spring perches. i'm not looking to shorter than stock. any advice would help a bunch.

How much does it need to be shortened. You possibly can get wheels with backspacing that will make it work without cutting. Don't think shortening an axle is something you would want to try without a jig in your garage.

Depends on how handy you are, how much do you want to spend? Here is an article on how to shorten the housing http://www.moparts.com/Tech/Archive/race/16.html . Then you need to get shorter axles, sometimes they can be resplined, depends on which ones you have. Do you already have the rear end? There are other options, I went with the ford 8.8 due to the expense of mopar rears in my area.

Not to hijack this thread ....but....I have a 8.75 rear with 3.23 and sure grip out of a C body 1971 town and country wagon. Was just curious what it usually runs to have one shortened at a shop,,including usual parts.

You could prolly get it shortend for arond 110-150

Thats just for the housing? Then you have to buy the right length axles?

correct.... you can't cut the B body axles b/c it will screw up the heat treatment... you can get new Yukon Axles w.green beerings pressed on for aprox 260-280.
