Small block 90 degree oil adapter

-
Anyone able to tell me why there is both cast iron and aluminum ones.
Aluminum ones were used on the 80's FMJ bodies that had 3 cats total on the exhaust. One of the two pre cats that occupied a lot of space near the oil filter area.

As far as I know all the 340 factory pieces were cast iron, but I can't say for certain.

Direct Connection offered an aluminum 90* adapter and I believe Mopar Performance did also. I have an aluminum adapter on my 416 vs the cast one on my 408.

There is 5 different versions, a steel true 90 used on the early 273’s, a steel one on the 340’s that angled different than the 273 ones, a stock cheap thin aluminum one that was used on some 1980’s models, and 2 slightly different Direct Connection ones that look like the 340 ones, except made of aluminum.
