I'm not sure if the promo has been applied to the web site yet. My thought was it would be done Friday and delayed until then to make the sale "official"Looks like the sale doesn't include the bare casting heads this year.
Hopefully, for the sake of people looking to get some bare castings, that’s the caseI'm not sure if the promo has been applied to the web site yet. My thought was it would be done Friday and delayed until then to make the sale "official"
That's what I would assume seeing as how the add says "Get ready; Black Friday starts this Friday."I'm not sure if the promo has been applied to the web site yet. My thought was it would be done Friday and delayed until then to make the sale "official"
Duh.. I missed that part. That's what I would assume seeing as how the add says "Get ready; Black Friday starts this Friday."

Bare casting heads are on sale now! 40% off. I just bought 2!!
Yup, just picked up 6 for builds in the shop. Bare, ported and assembled in-house
I think a 273 would probably require a notch with the 2.02 valves. But I'm no expert on 273sWould they work on 273 Sean? Or would cyl have to be notched?
No personal experience with those. I normally buy the valves, locks, retainers, springs and rockers through my regular sources. What are the general thoughts on other SM parts, valves, rockers etc?
I think the magnum port description is a typo. And I probably wouldn't choose the CNC ported version for a 273 either, I'd get the as-cast ones. 190cc port is "probably" a bit big for those cubesThese ones? I was eyeballing them...description says Magnum port?? Is that a typo?
Also I wonder if they would "work" on a 273?

Steve....I have a set of Speedmaster heads I bought from another member here years ago. When I was doing my 273 for the 65 Barracuda, I bolted one to my bare 273 block and turned it upside down to look. Intake valves overhang the block about a mile! You would need to notch the block to use them. I had a set of later model 302 heads, so I took them to @NC Engine Builder and he reworked them for me and put 1.88 intake valves in them. They worked great on my 273 for what I wanted it to be. Mild motor, but it made 260 HP and 280 lbs of torque on the dyno.Would they work on 273 Sean? Or would cyl have to be notched?

Did you do a build thread on that engine? I wondered how that project ended up!Steve....I have a set of Speedmaster heads I bought from another member here years ago. Yeah, they are designed around a 4" or larger bore, so that would not be ideal either, although it can bolt on and work. For a 273, I'd be more inclined to use the magnum iron replacement, and drill them for the LA pattern. But they dont look very factoryThanks, and once you notch it, I would assume head gaskets could be an issue?
I would think it would. That's one reason I shied away from them, or stock 2.02 J heads. I had to scrounge around to find the thinnest head gaskets that weren't for way too big of a bore, so to not lose compression in the void between the fire ring and the cylinder bore. I used a Cometic .028 gasket set, with the smallest bore size they offered...which was 4.040. Most of the rest of their offerings were 4.100!Thanks, and once you notch it, I would assume head gaskets could be an issue?
Sean...could you get 1.88 intake valves into a Magnum head without sinking them too deep? I thought of that, but the 1.88's in the heads we fixed were right on the ragged edge with the .030 over 273 bore. I was afraid the 1.92's of the Magnum would need a notch too.Yeah, they are designed around a 4" or larger bore, so that would not be ideal either, although it can bolt on and work. Probably could put a seat insert in there, and put the 1.88 on that, but then the bowl "might" be a little large. I had my shop go through my last set of loaded heads. He said the castings were excellent, and the hardware was quite good. More than adequate for the kind of fun cruisers in my fleet. What are the general thoughts on other SM parts, valves, rockers etc?
