start of body work

Ok someone please explain to me--Urethane paint--Lacquer paint--can they be used in engine bay's,Again not a show car it is a track car that we want to look decent.--Steve

Urethane is the most durable paint out there and the most chemical resistant.
I like the satin black over epoxy wet on wet underneath, frame rails, floor boards, and engine bays. Don't forget the hardener for this paint.

Primer Kit Try this:

I like these for my primer cans. I have one for each. Saves material and the mess. Much easier to measure out also.

I would purchase a good primer gun kit with a 1.3, 1.5, 1.8 kit like the FLG3 or 4 from devilbiss. Great gun for priming and good prices at spraygundepot.

The hood was shot with a 1.8 FLG primer med wet and top color 1.3 Sata RP. All unreduced and wet on wet.

If ya get the gun kit shoot the epoxy with 1.5 and urethane primer with 1.8.

Hope this helped.

Oh yes everything is helping thanks for explaining that for me--Steve

Once again my project has to be put in perspective--It is a drag only car-THis is our first time doing any kind of body work/paint so it is our Ginnie pig so to say,So top dollar componets don't need to be used and I APPRECIATE all responses and comments guy's Thank you Steve

Anybody spray the engine bay area without removing the motor? I don't have unlimited space to work with and I don't have an engine lift.

I have. had to tape everything off and use a smaller detail gun, and airbrusher on the really hard area to get into. took me a day to lay paint and clear.
