What is the difference in hood inserts? The parts car I am looking at has "340" hood inserts with out the 340 on them. Just curious, no rush. Thanks Chris

P.S. Pictures say a thousand words.

Let me guess..68 Barracuda? Regular Barracuda's had the inserts without the engine callout.

All 67 Cuda inserts were the same, no engine callout. 68 was the only year that had the callout for the engine, either 340 or 383. 225 and 318 cars were just plain, that was it. 69 did not have any hood louvers.

Okay. I think I got it. The parts on/off the car don't match up. It has 67 front end. I guess a rally dash. Now I know it has 68 hood inserts. And the guy thought it was a 340 car originally. I just have to keep being nice and maybe buy the car, because he HAS a 340 that would be nice to get ahold of. Not to change the subject to much, but how can I quickly tell if the engine is a 340. Thanks 66340sedan. Chris

On the sides of the block there will be a date code on one side, the other side will have a big part number, 283455926-340 (those were ramdom numbers for an example) The last set of numbers will say 340 or 318 or 273 or 360. These numbers are big and pretty easy to read, may have to scrape some grime off to read them, easy to read if the engine is out.

Here are some pics...first pic is 67 Barracuda all models, then 68 Barracuda base model, then the last is 68 Barracuda Formula S 340 or 383 (not pictured) Hope this helps!

Two ways.. all blocks have a raised casting number on the side of the block. All 340s have 340 at the end of the casting number. Also, on the block, just under the drivers side head (you may have to scrape paint/dirt to see), there is a stamping which includes the year built eg. E=69/F=70 (I is not used), and the displacement 340.

66340SEDAN....I have seen hood inserts like those w/ an argent surface instead of chrome. What's with those ??

Thanks for the help. The inserts are definitely the 68 baseand in really good shape. Now to see if what he has is actually a 340.
