My Dart had the original 225 in it and it ended up smoking and low compression on one cylinder. So the engine got yanked and torn down, sent to the machine shop. Machine shop rejected it, saying the timing gear wore an 1/8" into the block and was afraid that may be trouble down the road. Fair enough, my boyfriend has a 225 in his Dart that's just sitting there. Take that, tear it down, it was rebuilt at one point in time. Cool, should be great!

Crack in the block according to the machine shop.

The trans had gone out at the same time it started smoking, starting to slip pretty bad. Maybe my Dart is trying to rid itself of a slant haha.... Just my luck! Two bad blocks! Anyone else have bad luck with blocks?

Might need a new machine shop. Most of them are run by younger people who really don't know their way around a classic engine and would rather you go away so they don't have to think outside their norms.

Far and in between are the old shops run by an old guy who did this in his sleep before you and I were born. They are still out there.

Oh they are our there, cause this is one of them fortunately. Shop is run by a much older than me guy who's a Mopar fan on top of it. I've also had multiple people recommend this shop to rebuild their old iron engines. Does this mean it's a good shop? Well no, but it gives me more reassurance than shooting in the dark. Possibly they just aren't able to machine the slant? If that was the case I wish they would just tell me lol.

You know, I was really hoping to keep the slant for cruising. But it seems to me that a small block swap won't cost all that much more. I already have disc brakes, 8.25 rear....

Pity you are not near NC i pulled a fine running slant (original one from my 73 dart swinger) and its just sitting around with the rear.

Got a 360 from a motor home and a 8/34 sg rear waiting to go in it.
