I have noticed that some converters do not have the starter ring welded on,while others do.Do all 727 have the welded starter ring on them? I have 2 727s they both are the same, welded on.
I am having one of the trans. freshed up,and a new converter ordered[25-2800].Will it come with the starter ring welded on? I am new at this stuff. :glasses6:

Mopar 727 torque convertors have the starter ring gear on them. AMC 727 torque convertors do not have the starter ring gear on them.

Thanks! That was short and to the point! Whats the difference in a lock up an non-lock up trans? I read about those also,I would like to know that as well! I am in a learning mode, since I am about to spend money$$$,that way I will not seem so dumb when I talk to the Transmission Man. :glasses6:

A lock up transmission has a clutch in the torque converter that essentially locks the crankshaft of the engine to the input shaft of the transmission. It is used to eliminate the "slip" in a torque converter.

A non lock up transmission has a standard torque converter. You can only use a lock up torque converter on a lock up transmission. Likewise with a non lock up torque converter and non lock up transmission.
