If someone posts a shippable item in the mopar trader and someone agrees to make a trade then who should ship their item first, the trader or the tradee.

And what happens if the item is not what you expected, can you get your original item back.

What is the ideal way a trade of a shipped item should play out
 
I guess that's something that should be worked out between the two parties involved. Somebody's gonna have to trust somebody.
 
To me the situation should be treated just like each party sold something for cash to the other party. Both parties should ship at the same time unless other arrangements have previously been agreed on.
 
get plenty of pictures. if the communication is good, and my gut feels ok ,I wont hesitate to send mine out.

Me either, they're just parts after all!! And if someone isn't happy with something I send them, I would have no problem taking it back, and paying for the part received if I really needed it!! Geof
 
If you are trading, and it is not local, you have to understand that you are taking a big chance and it may not end well. You have to be ready to lose the part you are sending, especially if both items are valuable. I am hesitant to give any advise because it could be a scam. In my many ebay sales and purchases I have been lucky, very few bad deals.
 
I am a little worried because it would hurt a lot more to lose a part I need than it would be to lose to money. IMO

Money is so replaceable, every day you go to work, you get more.

But 40 year old parts are another story because you work so hard to put a car together and then to have to comb the world for a replacement part :banghead:
 
I like to do trades but it seems most are reluctant to do this kind of a deal. .Even at
swap meets this seems to be a out dated practice. Most only want cash for their parts these days.
I have been using the internet for a little over 10 years now. It has significantly reduced
the level of difficulty to obtain the rare parts for my projects. Its a great thing. I wouldn't want to go back to driving all over the states on the inevitable goose chase as in the days before the information age.
I don't use it to buy and sell for profit as some do which can be great as their efforts
could be where I end up findIng the next part I need for one of my cars.
I have likely completed close to a thousand internet deals over the years, half on eBay half from sites like here.
As far as the bad I have only never received a part once. And I knew better as it was a eBay
seller with 0 feedback. 25.00 loss I felt was worth the risk. Live and learn.
As far as not being represented correctly this varies a whole lot more.
It has to be a direct or obvious lie for me to call someone on it. Had to a couple times.
Also have had things get destroyed in shipping twice. It was always the way it was packaged by
the seller that allowed it to become damaged. They don't always like to fess up to this but pay pal has always made sure I got my funds back after sending them pictures and returning part.
I see some post here where some have abused the trust that is required to make a good transaction but it has been my experience that most folks are car guys just like me and
will do their part.
How much the parts are worth and how comfortable the other party
can make you feel would be used to make the decision for myself.
I feel I have been luckier than some I guess. Hope all goes well for you.
 
Every bodies idea of "perfect" is vastly different. Would request a crap load of photos. Who ships first? Tough call....who contacted who? If the other party contacted you then I would say they ship first, when you get there item and are satisfied then ship yours.

Or just don't do it as it is risky to say the least.....
 
My idea on this.

If you contact me to trade something, you send your stuff first, just as if you were buying with cash.

If you need the part why would you trade it anyway? I have bought a duplicate spare part for everything possible that I have been able to. They will stay in my parts stash as long as I have the Barracuda. I only get rid of stuff that I have no use for or have too many duplicates of.
 
If it doesn't feel right don't do it. Sometimes the best deals you make are the ones you pass on.
 
There is usually only one thing I will trade parts for and that is cash unless I know and trust the person I am trading with. JMO
 
I have made a couple of trades, and just shipped the parts, got mine and everything was cool.

Once with Lance, and another time with Pishta (Steve) on another forum.

hey Bruce whats up lol , the funny thing is , I still have those dash pieces. they never made it in to the duster before I traded it.
 
You need a neutral third party.


Both of you can ship the parts to me....


And thank you for the parts... (I hope it's something that I can use)... LOL!
 
I traded outer wheelhouses for a firewall cut from Jfirey from North Idaho on e-bodies. Everything was discussed up front. Talk on phone, no computer crap. If someone won't give there no., forget it!
