please bear with me as i am new to this. I have a 72 scamp with a 360 and 904 trans. went on a 400 mile trip this past weekend and on the way home the trans started to vibrate pretty bad when it shifted from 2nd to drive until the rpms came up. I have checked the drive shaft ,yoke straps, and trans bushing. can someone point me in another direction to look ? it only does it when going into drive. If i shift it manually and bring the rpms up it does not vibrate. Since i have owned the car the trans always shifted real fast threw the gears but now i have this vibration thanks Kelly

Could be a line pressure issue and it's low, make a poor engagement.

Without very good detail in the exact issue that will be something you might need a live person to diagnose

I think these guys are right.
It may not be a vibration your feeling, it may be a forward clutch chatter in the trans on application.
If you can do a line pressure test or take it to a shop that can do it for you (any trans shop can) then that would be a great tell tale.
Things inside transmissions don't get out of balance until right before it explodes and yours still drives.
Look up the line pressure specs and if it's low beyond specs then it's time for it to pulled for an inspection to find out where the pressure loss is.
If it still drives but has low pressure it's almost always pump or governor sealing rings.
This isn't an oppinon, it's experience.
Here's hoping it's an easy fix for ya.

If it shifted real fast through the gears it sounds like the throttle pressure linkage (kickdown linkage) was out of adjustment. That also affects line pressure so if not adjusted right will toast a trans. You can try adjusting it tighter (lengthen the linkage at the carb) and see what happens. That should raise the shift points and the line pressure.
