I will be changing over my 7 1/4 for a 8 3/4 rear. Is there a u joint i can use or will i need a new drive shaft?

It depends on which u-joint yoke & carrier housing used. There were 2 joint possibilities 7260 & 7290 & yes you will have to have it shortened.

Chrysler used 2 different sized yokes. U-joints are available for the small and large, and also a combination u-joint incase your driveshaft is different from your center section yoke.
