Hey all,

I am scrambling to get my 340 (late 69 production) into my 68 barracuda convertible...The motor I pulled out was a 273 block with 360 heads...

My big problem is that I have the motor sitting in the car and I bolted up the pulley on the balancer and on the water pump (pulleys came off the old motor) and they do not line up...they are off by about an inch.....

what is the best solution to this problem...is there pulleys I can buy?

any ideas would be greatly appreaciated as I am very eager to get the car going now that summer is in full effect ...

Thanks

shane

Absolutely - someone will chime in with what you need and I'm sure there are guys here that will even have what you need.

Which water pump pulley do you have? I believe there are two different depths for them. Go to Ebay, there are pulleys on there now and the guy is selling both types. He has posted pics so you can compare them to what you have and go from there. Good luck

Driver side exit water pump is the early and shorter pump. I just changed to the late pump and used March Performance pulleys and mounts...Not the cheapest way to go, but very simple solution, especially if you have power steering. You lose the one mounting hole in the water pump...

hey Bob,

I have been looking at those March pulleys, They lined up no problem with the later water pump that has the inlet on the drivers side?

By the time I get that one on ebay I may just be better off getting those march ones..

Thanks for the ebay link though, that is exactly what I needed to see...the extra 3/4 will line everything up..

Take all the stuff off the front of the 273 and transfer it to the 340, timing cover water pump etc. Be sure to check the timing mark location using a positive stop on cyl 1 - don't ask me why I suggest this.
