Hey all. I have a question about the VIn number on my 71 Swinger. I know that there is suppose to be a plate on the dash, also there is the sticker on the door. Is there any other place it may be located on the car?
The issue I have is that the plate on the dash is missing. I will be painting the car at a later time so the sticker on the door will need to be removed or covered up. How will I or some one else know what the Vin number is? Is there a place I can have a new dash plate made? Should I think some one took the plate off to use on another car? What should I do?
Thanks for any help.
Jeff

Do you have a legal title to the car? Do you have the fender tag/s? A new door stick can be made as long as you can show legal owner ship of the car.Do you have a build sheet to the car?A VIN number can be stamped for your car if you have most of the paper work through local DMV or state police/Province.Where is the old dash with the VIN number?Mrmopartech

If the original VIN tag on the dash is missing, you'll need to go to DMV and possibly the police. After clearing you of stealing your own car (so to speak) they will issue you a new VIN #. So you can legally get a plate. Anything these days without a VIN is highly suspect to theft. If you have reciepts it should be no problem.

Isn't the VIN stamped on the radiator core support and on the trunk seal area? I had a '69 Fury III that had the VIN stamped in these areas.

there should be a stamped # on the rad support. ususally covered by the yellow sticker. on my 66 that # matches the sequence # on the fender tag not the actual vin #. that may not be the case on the later years. you may have to scratch some paint off to read the #

the left frame rail of my sport and the rad support has the sequence number on it....which also matches the vin.....

You guys are great. Now just have to find it on the frame or rad support. thanks folks.
