My friend has a '74 New Yorker (BIG 4 door boat) with a 440/727 combo. Anybody have any idea what rearend it may have? I don't have any pics but it is a posi. I'm looking for a rearend for my Challenger and he wants 50 bucks for this one.

Most likely it's a 8 3/4, but the width isn't the same as your car.
I've got an 8 3/4 housing and axles from a Challenger I'd sell. No center section or brakes though. But you could use the brakes and center section from the new Yorker, I believe.

I once parted out a 71 chrysler wagon with the 440/727 combo. It had a 8.75 rear end,but i dont know if they made it for the year of your car.

Seems we were posting at the same time. Guess I was wrong......

Well, mines an E body, it's a Challenger (I know, this is an "A" body site). Mine has 489 gears and isn't practical for highway use. So I want to do a complete swap. I think it would be easier to swap the whole axle than the center section.

I got 2 different center sections for the Duster. It's not that
hard swapping them out. I have the green bearings on the axles
so I don't have to worry about bearing lash. I can switch them
out in about an hour and a half. Thats taking my time.
2 sets of gears for racing,4.30s and 3.23s for the street.
It would be cheaper in the long run to change just the center.
