when should you use a brake booster?

My little Valiant Charger had front discs and rear drums and an aftermarket ermote brake booster. I am going to convert to full RMS front and back and will have discs both front and back. Should I still use a brake booster?

When is it valid to use one? Any info appreciated guys!
 
Note for North American readers: some South African and Australian Valiants, such as the one brewil is talking about, had a remote brake booster setup available as factory or dealer-installed equipment, and similar setups were (and maybe still are) available for aftermarket installation. The booster mounts on the inner fender. The master cylinder is mounted directly to the firewall, operated by a pushrod pushed by the brake pedal. The hydraulic line that would ordinarily serve the front (disc) brakes goes instead to a slave cylinder on the input side of the remote booster. The booster operates another master cylinder on its output side, which serves the front disc brakes. In this way, you get boosted front disc brakes and unboosted rear drums. Good setup for avoiding premature rear lockup.

Brewil: I think you will likely want to either keep the front boost as per existing configuration, or change to 4-wheel boost. It's all down to how much pedal effort and travel you want.

The Aussie Vals did come with the option of a firewall mounted brake booster but mine didn't so when I upgraded the brakes my mech installed the remote one on the inner fender. Where do I find a 4 disc setup booster, any links?

Do you need prop valves with 4 disc or is that only for front disc and rear drum setups?
 
I would not use such a large bore master cylinder without a 4-wheel booster with 4-wheel discs. Pedal effort without a booster would be way, way too high. Price seems unreasonably high, too; you can get a functionally identical, same-bore master for a lot less money. Do you require the aluminum construction because you're trying to shave every last gram off the car? Or would a functionally-appropriate iron master cylinder suit you?
 
I like the size and weight, it's moer expensive because it comes with the adapter plate.
I have a stock iron master but as I am rebuilding the ENTIRE car-everything including wiring etc etc (over a few years as money permits) I wanted something a little more "trick".
Gosh where do I find a 4 wheel booster?
