I'm thinking about putting a steel 383 crank in a 400 block. Should I use the 383 or the 400 rods or does it not matter. Also how many cubes is a 400 if it's bored 60 over.
Not sure on the rod question, I am pretty sure they are about equal in the "B" engines. On that size bore, each .030" overbore should get you 6 cubes, so a .060" 400 would be a 412" engine.
I believe the 400 and 383 rods are the same. I have one 383 and one 400 steel crank myself. Both standard. The 400 is the prettiest one I have ever seen. Surprised the crap outta me cause it came out of a 1977 400. I got 400 rods too. You could have it all for shippin.....but it'd kill you from Georgia.
