About to install a 340 to replace the 318 in our '72 Satellite Sebring Plus. May start it up using the Carter two-barrel and install the thermo-quad later. I have an AEM air/fuel ration gauge collecting dust on the shelf I would like to use (model 30-4110. I would like to know somehow who has experience with this type of monitoring because I don't want to run too lean on cruise a damage the internal engine components. Thank you. (posted on FBBO also).

Generally you'll want to cruise at 14.7:1. Idle is typically going to need to be a little richer due to uneven fuel distribution. Full throttle you will probably want around 12.8-13.2:1 or so.

I'm running one. It is so handy tuning the car and I would not run a vehicle without. Follow the directions for the install. Mount the gage where you can see it without too much trouble. 14.7 is your goal for idle and light cruise. I'm a little richer than that BUT cooler weather is coming so I'm leaving it alone. Wide open throttle is an argument waiting to happen. Make sure it is at least very low 13's. This is where a dyno/ (or track time) will be beneficial. I'd richen up the carburetor (in small increments) until it stops making power. See what the gauge reads. It may be 12.6 or 13.0, every combination is different. I know you can read the plugs but to each his own. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd post a video of how mine works and to show how it changes with just small adjustments.
