I originally posted this in the racing section, but only got 1 reply. So, I'm trying it here.

For all you transmission experts....will launching my car (at the track) in second gear hurt the transmission, or will it just build a little more heat? This is on a small block 727, 8" converter.

Thanks

No, i did it plenty of times. I do 2nd gear burnouts and roll up to the line in 2 nd gear and nail it.
60' times went from 2.25 launching in 1st, to 1.7 launching in 2 nd.
Bad track prep, lol.
I was foot braking it at 2000 rpm and running 6 psi of boost, nothing broke.

As long as the front band is in good shape and you keep an eye on the adjustment I can't see where it'd do anything but create more heat. For that reason your cooler needs to be up to snuff to handle it. Do you have a trans. temp gauge to keep an eye on it? If not you may want to invest in one.
