I have a '73 Duster that came from the factory with a 225 ci and 904 tranny. I'm putting in a 340 with a 727. I have been looking for a drive shaft and have come across one that came out of a '73 Duster with a 318 ci and 904 tranny. Will this drive shaft work with the 340 and 727 set-up or will I need to make modifications to it?

The slip yoke will be 26 spline from the 904, you need the 29 spline from the 727/post '66 833's. You may also have to get some conversion U-joints to go from 7260 to 7290, depending on what your rearend yoke is. I'm guessing the 904 driveshaft has the small (7260) U-joints. Here is how to measure for a driveshaft. http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/how_to_measure.html That being said, I believe the 904 is shorter than the 727 by 4 inches, so it will probably not work.

Hey wish4, that was a great site for driveshaft info. I have bookmarked them for future reference.

The 904 driveshaft will be too long for the 727 combo.

The DS length you need will come in right about 45" if you have an 8.75 rear. It will be a bit longer if you have either a 8.25 or 7.25 rear.

As mentioned, you need a 727 yoke too. 904 yoke won't work in the 727
